Mentoring For Parents:
Consultations will be set up differently for each client. Every parent's needs are different and so my services are individualized. Generally, we begin with a one-on-one reflective intake and self-assessment. During one-on-one support sessions we will work on parenting strategies that are right for you and your child/ren. My services are designed to support you in the challenges you face, and include but are not limited to:
At school;
- child observations at home and/or school; if appropriate, acting as a liaison between your household and school.
- serving as an advocate for you and your child and/or providing support at student study sessions and IEP meetings.
- providing referrals and interface to appropriate specialists as needed and requested.
- assisting with leg work to choose preschools, private and alternative schools; including determining best educational fit for you, your child and family.
At home;
- coaching parents on discipline practices, teen/tween development, divorce, step-parenting; while maintaining humor and perspective throughout.
- providing pre and postnatal support; coaching on early childhood developmental issues, such as, toileting, eating and sleeping, and school readiness.
- helping "work at home" parents with daily routines and at-home play environments that engage children in appropriate activities.
- coordinating group parenting sessions, book club discussion groups, and workshops for play-groups.
- helping newcomers get acquainted with the community and services.
- provide phone, email and research support on a regular basis, when one on one sessions are difficult to schedule.
